Exercisers’ Affective and Enjoyment Responses: A Meta-Analytic and Meta-Regression Review

Affective responses and enjoyment of exercise mediate adherence, but previous research findings have failed to examine nuances that may moderate this relationship. We examined the effects on affective during post through a systematic literature review meta-regression analysis. searched major databases up July 9, 2020 for studies evaluating healthy adults’ acute chronic exercise, using either The Feeling Scale or Physical Activity Enjoyment Scales. calculated effect size (ES) values 20 unique (397 participants; 40% females) as standardized differences in means expressed them Hedges’ g, together with 95% confidence interval (95%CI). Among examining responses, we found greater positive continuous training (CT) compared high intensity (HIIT) ( g = −0.61; 95%CI −1.11, −0.10; p < .018), there was no significant difference between these modes exercise. Subgroup analyses revealed moderate, not intensity, CT, HIIT, resulted significantly −1.09; −1.88, −0.30; .006).
